landing-page-optimizationSo you created your landing page… launched it out to the world… plastered it on social media but you didn’t get the results you were hoping for.  So now what do you do?  You tweak, right?  Back to the drawing board of ‘landing page optimization’.  We’ve been there before. J  But how do you know if what you’re doing or what you’re optimizing is even right?  Did you even know that you could ‘optimize’ wrongly?  Well I’m here to tell you that you definitely CAN!  The good news is that I’m going to show you the top 2 mistakes entrepreneurs and online businesses make when it comes to ‘landing page optimization’ and how YOU can avoid them.

Landing Page Optimization Mistake #1

The first and biggest mistake when it comes to ‘landing page optimization’ is going into this head first with no clear goal in mind.  Landing page optimization is all about having a clear goal.  We teach all of our clients and Marketing Game Changer students that your pages should have ONE clear focus, ONE clear goal.  If your goal is to get opt-ins then your landing page needs to be hyper-focused around accomplishing THAT single goal.  I can’t tell you how many times a new client comes to us wondering why their pages aren’t converting or they can’t fill up a webinar and when we look at and review the page we find tons of other elements competing for attention.

If you want your pages to convert they MUST be laser-focused around one goal.  After you’ve written he copy and designed the page go over the elements one at a time and ask yourself, “does this help my prospect make the right decision”.  If you answered no to that then remove that element right away.  I don’t care how cute, pretty or nice it may look.  The goal here is conversion, right?  So know your goals and be disciplined enough to keep your pages focused around that ONE goal!

Landing Page Optimization Mistake #2

The second mistake we see all the time is ‘designing pages around YOUR own preferences and wants’.  Ohhhh, that might hurt a bit but remember this is always about them NOT you!  your pages are there to facilitate an action in the visitor, whether that action is to opt-in, buy your product, sign up for your webinar, whatever it is it has to facilitate THEM not stroke your ego.

The entire focus of the landing page is to get the visitor to stay on the page.  Break that down even further and look at every sentence, every headline and every sub-headline with the single focus that this piece of copy is only here to get the reader to read the next one.  This approach helps to simplify the process and also remove your own preferences and whims shifting the focus onto the visitor. Remember that your audience and target market are real people.  On the other side of that screen are real people, looking for real solutions.  Approach your ‘landing page optimization’ with this perspective and watch your conversion rates skyrocket.
